Software as a Service

New BPM Platform

Software-as-service is a way of providing software applications over the internet, rather than installing them at a customer's premises. It allows users to access their applications from anywhere, using only a standard browser, without the need for complex IT installations or ongoing IT operations administration costs. The actual applications are installed (hosted) once on a remote server somewhere on the Internet, and can be configured to support multiple customers (multi-tenanting). The combination of Internet-hosted servers, data farms and cheap broadband access that facilitates this way of delivering software is known as ‘the cloud'.

SmartOptics

SmartOptics

SmartOptics:
CWDM (Coarse Wave Division Multiplexing) and DWDM (Dense Wave Division Multiplexing) provides the ability to send multiple channels across a single physical fibre pair. CWDM supports up to 16 channels per fibre pair, and this can be grown to 40 Channel using DWDM wave lengths.

This technology works by splitting light up into light signals (colours) or waves. In this way multiple colours or waves can be sent down the same physical cable.

The SmartOptics solution is also an embedded WDM solution. SmartOptics use SFPs which install directly into SAN switches and Ethernet Switches. Each SFP is colour coded, and a like-for-like colour is required at each data centre.

To support multiple channels over a physical fibre pair, a passive Multiplexer is used. Multiplexers can support from 8 to 40 channels, and as a passive device there is no power requirement. Since the SFPs become part of the SAN Switch or Ethernet Switch there is no additional software requirements.
